1 Arabic Calligraphy:

Arabic calligraphy was originally a tool for communication, but with time, it began to be used in architecture, decoration and coin design. Its evolution into these major roles was a reflection of the early Muslims’ need to avoid, as their beliefs required, figures and pictorials that were used as idols before Islam was established in the Arabian Peninsula.

While the Arabic tribes preferred to memorize texts and poetry, the first Muslims tried to document their holy book (Qur’an) using special scripts. In order to understand how these scripts developed into the beautiful and complex shapes we know today,we have to understand the history of Arabic calligraphy.

Digging deep into the history of the Arabian Peninsula and the origin of the Arabic language, archeologists have found inscriptions that show a close relationship between Arabic scripts and some earlier scripts, such as the Aramaic Nabataean and the Canaanites alphabets. Study of Arabic Calligraphy is the sine qua non to understand the entire Arabic culture and custom.

2 Spoken Arabic:

Gulf Arabic is the Arabic language as spoken in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, etc.), Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, most of Southern Iraq and to a lesser extent Oman. It is not a written but a spoken, variety of Arabic language. It can be seen as a colloquial language since Arabic language exhibits diglossia attribute. It is used in day-to-day affairs and in business by Gulf Arabs.

4 Emirati Dialect and Culture:

The dialect’s full name el-lahja el-Khalijiyya, can be translated as ‘the dialect of the gulf’. However, it is most commonly referred to as Khaliji. Gulf dialects differ a lot in vocabulary, grammar and accent. There are many big differences between Kuwaiti Arabic and the dialects of Qatar and UAE especially in vocabulary and accent. Learning UAE dialect will enhance your relationship and business deals with the people. Understanding their culture and respecting it is the most important aspect of succeeding in business.
